Reporting Requirements
Florida law regulates campaign financing for all candidates (including judicial candidates), committees and electioneering communications, affiliated party committees and political parties. It does not regulate campaign financing for candidates for federal office.
Chapter 106 Fla Stat specifically requires each campaign treasurer designated by a candidate or committee to file regular reports of all contributions received and all expenditures made by or on behalf of the candidate or political committee on or before the filing deadline (see below). It is the campaign treasurer's responsibility to ensure that reports are complete and accurate and comply with all campaign finance laws and regulations.
Any candidate or political committee that fails to file a report by the designated due date may be assessed a fine by the filing officer for each late day. In the case of a candidate, such fine shall be paid only from personal funds of the candidate.
Where to File
Candidate reports are required to be filed with the officer before whom the candidate is required by law to qualify. Reports required of a political committee shall be filed with the agency or officer before whom such committee registers pursuant to s.106.03(3).
For more information, please refer to Chapter 106, the Florida Division of Elections website and the candidate and committee handbooks.
How to File
Political committees filing reports with the Division of Elections are required to file by means of the Electronic Filing System (EFS).
Candidates who file and qualify with the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections and committees registered in Sarasota County use our electronic campaign finance portal to log in and file reports. Click here for a schedule of 2023 reporting dates.
