2024 Sarasota County Elections

Review the information below to prepare for the coming 2024 election cycle.

NOTE: Florida is a closed primary state. This means only voters who are registered members of political parties may vote for respective party candidates or nominees in a primary election, including the Presidential Preference Primary. A person can register with a party or change his or her party affiliation any time, but to vote for a party candidate in a primary election, one must be registered with the party 29 days before an election. Learn more about updating party affiliation by visiting our Update Voter Information page.

What to Know Before You Vote
  • The Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) will be for registered Republican voters only since Florida is a closed primary state.
  • Some of the candidates whose names appear on the March 19 PPP ballot may have suspended their campaigns. The inclusion of these candidate names on the ballot is not an error. Florida law states that if a candidate did not submit a formal withdrawal before December 12, 2023, the candidate’s name must remain on the PPP ballot for his or her respective party, per F.S. 103.101(3). A vote cast for any candidate appearing on the ballot will count as a vote for that candidate.
  • Voters in precinct 113 (Tri-Par Estates Park & Recreation District) will also have an election on March 19. All registered voters in precinct 113 may participate in the Tri-Par Estates Park & Recreation District election.
